Around the Shining Waters

Description

A History of Featherston County Council

This is an account of nearly 120 years of local body service in the district surrounding Lake Wairarapa – the “Lake of Shining Waters”. Against a background of pioneer struggles, wars, economic crises, and personal endeavours, it relates the story of a county council and its immediate predecessors, abolished in the local government restructuring of 1989. A human story, sometimes tragic, sometimes comic, often moving, it belongs to the broader canvass of our country’s history.

Published in 1991.
